Part 2: Lifelong Learning

I choose to use a growth mindset, set effective learning goals, have good time management, reflect on my actions and their outcomes, and develop more discipline than self motivation. Personally, I believe that learning is a continuous, evolving process—not a destination. To reach your destination you must see the positive in every opportunity and use each situation as a source of learning, whether it be good or bad. As the field of medicine advances, I must stay open to new evidence from new research and new technologies. I must learn to change or adapt to new perspectives as well. Effective learning goals include making a to-do list daily, weekly, and monthly so that my learning goals accumulate to provide a yearly update and visible progress. Setting goals that are attainable motivate you further to strive for them since they are possible in your vision. Time management also aids in allowing you to schedule your classes and studying periods at optimal times where you actively learn and absorb material best. Spend time doing what you can in the most efficient way possible. Lastly, discipline is more important than motivation because discipline will train you even on days that you are tired, exhausted, and want to give up. Motivation is temporary adrenaline, while discipline is a constant high.
